Cheese please!
I wish I was back in bed like I was for most of yesterday. It's been a very long day and there is still a lot left of it but I'm tired and sick and I want to go home. Yesterday was the worst because I had a fever and was miserable. Today isn't as bad, it's just that I had to come into the office to do some work. I wish they'd let me work from home...it would be so much easier. I hate being a whiner, but that's exactly what happens when I get sick.
On a positive note, Cubs tickets went on sale this morning and I've been able to get tickets for 3 games so far. I am addicted to the Cubs and have been for the last couple of years. It really started back in 2003 during the playoffs. A good friend of mine, Kansas, used to live across the street from the bleachers so before every playoff game we would head to her place, grab some bud light cans and head over to Murphy's to watch the game. It was quite the rush and an amazing experience. But what put me over the top was deciding to do a road trip, with two of Kansas' friends that I had just met, to Atlanta to catch game 5 against the Braves. We didn't have tickets, just a place to crash and a car to get there. Luckily, my friend Doc was living in Atlanta and she knew that tickets would be easy to get, so as soon as game 4 ended we went to our homes, packed a change of clothes and headed south. It was an 11 hour drive from Chicago to Atlanta and it was hard but we were excited so it was worth it.
Once we hit Atlanta, we met up with Doc, got her keys and then headed to the ballpark to get our tickets. Practically everyone there was from Chicago so it was quite an event. Then we headed to Doc's to shower, nap and change before heading back to the ballpark. The game was awesome, the people were great - except for the one asshole that decided to grab my boobs - and the Cubs won!! What a party! But of course, we all drank way to much while celebrating so I refused to let anyone start driving before sobering up. They were pissed, but it was a good thing because when we did start the trek home a few hours later there were still cops out checking for drunk drivers. It was the right thing to do, but made it that much harder to stay awake since we lost the adrenaline rush. It took about 15 hours, because we didn't have any real sleep since the Friday night, and it's now early Monday morning! The plan was to be back in time for work on the Monday but that didn't really happen (at least for me).
The Cubs didn't make it past the Marlins that year, but it was the start of something big. They got many more followers and people now believe that it's possible to break the curse of the billy goat. And me, well I'm addicted and heading to spring training next weekend to catch my beloved Cubbies down in Mesa, AZ for the first time without Sosa. It's gonna be great!
