he made my day

I worked late again last night but decided to treat myself to a cab ride home. Instead of spending an hour to get back to my couch and relax, it took 15 minutes of nail biting suspense, with a cabbie that was singing to himself. He was out of control driving on the highway and all I could think was "I don't want to die tonight." Thankfully, once off the highway he returned into a sane driver, except of course for the singing. I'm used to cabbies being on the phone the whole time but singing is a new one for me. It wasn't bad just different, he was doing it really quietly and it sounded a little like chanting. So I made it home in one piece and went straight to the couch to relax with my dinner...microwaved popcorn...yummie! For some reason, I wasn't as tired as I usually am, so I decided to clean. I've neglected this chore for a really long time so I couldn't stop until at least one room was finished. I finally felt like I accomplished something unrelated to work. It was energizing. And it continued into this morning. I cleaned off all the junk that was collecting on my dining room table, put all my shoes and coats away, cleaned counter tops and nearly took out the mop, but then I would've been really late for work.

As I'm heading to the stairs at the 'L' station this morning, Ernesto, the ever present CTA employee stops me, smiles and asks...

Ernesto: "What's your name?"
FC: "FireCracker"

shakes my hand and with a smile says...
Ernesto: "Ernesto. "
Ernesto: "You are very beautiful."

with a fast moving blush and a shy smile, I reply...
FC: "Thank you"
Ernesto: "Have a wonderful day."
FC: "You too"

And I walk up the stairs to my train with a big grin. I'm embarrassed by the attention, but it feels nice to be noticed. If only something that nice could happen every day, to everyone -- the world would be such a nicer place.
